An after market sunroof (also known as a retro fit sun roof) is a sun roof that is installed into an automobile at anytime after the car was produced. This installment style takes a technician to trim a gap at the vehicle roof. To seal and obscure the cut from the roof, a trim ring is installed leaving a raised edge on the roof’s surface. Factory installed sun roofs are intended to be totally flush into the roof of the motor vehicle. Any vehicle with a trimming ring includes an aftermarket sunroof.
Due to this variety of aftermarket sun roof manufacturers and their various part/assembly possibilities, vehicles with aftermarkets has to be carefully identified.
TYPES OF After-market SUNROOFS
Pop up sun roof – These sunroofs are manually operated and possess either a flip upward or crank style rear latch.
Electric Spoiler Sunroof – These sunroofs are electronically operated. The glass slides upward along with the roof of their vehicle when opened.
Electric inbuilt Sunroof – These sunroofs are electronically operated. The glass slides and within the roof of the vehicle if opened.
1. After Market Sun Roofs ARE DANGEROUS FOR YOUR Security
First see that the roofing of an auto is a critical section of the general structure. And any alternation made to it will impact the rigidity and integrity of the automobile. Therefore whenever you simply cut a portion of the vehicle’s roof to suit the glass, you’re not simply playing your security but everyone who will be traveling with you personally. Keep in mind the roof bears a lot of structural load, therefore it can get very dangerous during some time of a wreck.
2. They’re NOT SUCCESSFUL IN LONGER DURATION
Though several after market sunroof makers claim their unit would continue for as long as the factory-fitted one, but frankly they may not become successful. There have been several times when such sunroofs start leak-aging and rattling — something which will turn into a challenge for the life. Therefore it’s far better to avert this kind of fitment that could require frequent visits to service centers.
3. It May AFFECT THE RESALE VALUE OF THE CAR
While it may appear to be a fancy fitment to you, the people/used-car dealer who is buying it out of you personally will find it useless. And many like me that knows how unsafe these can be would not buy such a vehicle. Therefore it will likely be difficult for one to get the best-possible value of your vehicle.
